Davey's Thoughts
Davey had the following written in his instant messaging profile:
In life there are going to be some things thats going to make it hard to smile. But
whatever you do, through all the rain and the pain, you got to keep your sense of humor, you got to smile for me now. RIP
My Mind, Body, And Soul 12/8/85
One of Davey's favorite things to do was to be a consultant disc jockey for Mobile
Music and Bill Recco. This was a highlight for Davey.
We have asked the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation to handle funds for the scholarship which is setup as the
"David Andrew Hood Memorial Scholarship Fund". Any donations may be made to the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and
in the memo block, "David Andrew Hood Memorial Scholarship Fund". This guarantees that the money will
be deposited in his fund. Donations may be mailed to:
The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation
P. O. Box 3041
Charleston, WV 25331
or call 304-346-3620. A scholarship each year will be given in his name.
This way, a part of him lives on forever. Your donations
are a loving, living memorial to him. I
looked up the word philanthropy while I was making this website. It says: Late Latin philanthropia, from Greek philanthrOpia,
from philanthrOpos loving people, from phil- + anthrOpos human being Date: circa 1623 1 : goodwill
to fellowmen; especially : active effort to promote human welfare. That is exactly what Davey did in his life.
He tried to promote loving people and human welfare. This is why this scholarship means so much to me, this is so Davey.
Donations are tax deductible.
Davey's organs were donated through the CORE
program, and we are pleased that a part of him lives on through others. His heart keeps giving as he always
did.

What a crew!
This is a typical Drew and Davey antics. Always looking for a way
to create laughter and havoc. Messing with people came easy to these two, and Dustin would join in. But the instigators
were Drew and Davey. School with frustrations? Hard to believe, huh?

Davey loved the computer and playing Tactical Ops with his friends. He laughed often and enjoyed making his friends
laugh. He could be so serious and such a deep thinker one minute and a funny, out-there person the next. He especially
enjoyed being on Instant Messaging with all his friends from Nitro High School and Tac-Ops.
David Andrew was born in Charleston, WV on 12/8/85. He lived on Ridge Drive in South Charleston for the first
7 years of his life. His brother, Travis, came to live with his father in 1991 and the Hood family moved to Cross Lanes.
He attended Heart and Hand Day School, Staunton Elementary in South Charleston prior to moving to Cross Lanes, WV and attended
Point Harmony, Andrew Jackson Middle School and Nitro High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dunbar,
WV.
He has a sister, Tanya in Texas. His grandmother & grandfather, Jack & Mary Alice Carpenter, live
in Dunbar, WV as does his Uncle Don Carpenter and Aunt Dena Johnston. His Uncle Dayton Carpenter lives in Charleston.
His grandmother, Markey Hood, and his great-aunt, Belle White live in Clarksburg, WV. His grandfather, David and
Patty Hood, live in Clarksburg, as does his Aunts Amy McCracken and Liz Blount and Linda Hawkins. His Uncle Brian
also lives in Clarksburg. His Aunt Jana Palumbo lives in Florida and his Aunt Robin Jenkins lives in Georgia.
He made excellent grades for the first years and was very smart. He enjoyed clowning for the kids (maybe a
little too much) in the 8th grade and began his legacy of making you smile. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and music.
One of his favorite teachers was Miss Amy, the showchoir teacher at Nitro High School. Mrs. Stewart was also a favorite. Another
favorite teacher was Mrs. Wilson, who was his fifth grade teacher. Davey had a very good singing voice and could also
do impressions. His family called him the next "Jim Carey".
One of Davey's friends wrote in his Hospital Journal: "Davey, when I thought laughter wasn't an option,
you made it possible". What a legacy to leave in his short life.
